Drainage in Lake Nona Is a Fast-Growth Water Problem

Lake Nona grew explosively over the last decade, with new master-planned communities, parks, and Medical City built on what was largely flat, sandy-clay ranch and citrus land. The ground percolates okay in places, but where it doesn't - low corners, retention swales that hold water, lots graded flat toward the house - you get standing water and wet foundations. Add a high water table in parts of the area and the picture is complete.

Because the communities are new, the homes themselves are usually in good shape - the problem is almost always the grading and drainage that construction left behind. A yard drain to move surface water, a regrade to fix the pitch, or a French drain when water rises toward the foundation handles most of what we see out here.
